Pizza Hut closed 15 Indiana locations with 120 others facing the same fate due to a legal dispute with franchisee EYM Group over alleged payment defaults.
EYM accused Pizza Hut of menu and digital system stagnation hindering competition.
Amid these challenges, Pizza Hut introduced Chicago tavern-style pizza with new toppings and sauces.
The restaurant chain’s Chief Food Innovation Officer highlighted these additions as part of a culinary innovation strategy.
“These menu additions represent a bold step forward as part of our culinary mission to bring our guests modern innovation that embraces what we know our customers are loving and looking for in a pizza,” Chief Food Innovation Officer Rachel Antalek said.
“Tavern is not just a pizza; it is a culinary trend that reflects the excitement of today’s pizza scene.”
Previous instances of closures and legal conflicts between Pizza Hut and EYM Group have raised concern, including a forbearance agreement following accusations of financial discrepancies.
