Don Lemon, the former CNN anchor, declared on X that he is stepping away from the platform. He pointed to a change in its direction and voiced concerns about new terms of service that could protect the platform from legal challenges.
He thanked his followers for their engagement over the years but criticized X for no longer being a space for honest debate.
Lemon’s departure follows a tumultuous relationship with X owner Elon Musk, which included the failed launch of “The Don Lemon Show.”
Despite his controversial past, Lemon has been vocal about progressive issues, and recent reports suggest he is exploring new media opportunities, potentially in collaboration with former news anchor Matt Lauer.
“I have loved connecting with you all on Twitter and then on X for all of these years. But it’s time for me to leave the platform,” he exclaimed in a video post. “I once believed that it was a place for honest debate and discussion, transparency, and free speech. But I now feel it does not serve that purpose.”
“This is a hub for conservatives which experts say could make it easier for X to shield itself from litigation and punish critics,” Lemon said.
