Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has publicly acknowledged her involvement in efforts to pressure President Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, citing concerns over his campaign’s effectiveness following a poor debate performance.
This coordinated effort, reportedly led by former President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Pelosi, included discussions about invoking the 25th Amendment if Biden refused to step aside.
In her interview with The New Yorker, Pelosi expressed her admiration for Biden but criticized his political operation, emphasizing the need for a stronger campaign to prevent Donald Trump from returning to the White House.
“I love him so much. I think he’s been a really a fantastic president of the United States. So I really wanted him to make a decision of a better campaign. Because they were not facing the fact of what was happening,” Pelosi said. “Just a little background. I’ve never been that impressed with his political operation.”
When asked to clarify, she confirmed that she was talking about President Biden’s political operation. “Yeah, I’m not. I mean, I just haven’t. They won the White House, bravo,” Pelosi added.
“But so my concern was this ain’t happening and we have to make a decision for this to happen and the president has to make the decision for that to happen. Let me just say, I won’t say necessarily I knew what I was doing at that time. I knew what I was doing in the whole thing, not just that ship,” she said.
“And what was that?” the interviewer asked.
“That Donald Trump would never set foot in the White House again,” Pelosi said.
The situation has escalated tensions within the Democratic Party, particularly after Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, a decision that reportedly angered Obama, who had preferred Senator Mark Kelly as a potential nominee.
Concerns about Harris’s debate performance against Trump are also prevalent among party insiders.
“Obama knows she’s just incompetent — the border czar who never visited the border, saying that all migrants should have health insurance. She cannot navigate the landmines that are ahead of her,” an inside source stated. “When you are running for president there are things you can and can’t say.
“Wait until the debate… She can’t debate. She’s going to put her foot in her mouth about Israel, Palestine, Ukraine. She’s going to say something really stupid,” the source added.
“Obama is ‘furious,’ things haven’t gone his way, which is why he is not joining in the Democratic Party’s support of Harris,” the insider added.
